Today we worked on our presentation. We found a presentation theme on Prezi that has foot prints that looks like someone is walking or in our case dancing. We have the first part of our presentation done but we have to wait at least until after today to know what we want to discuss. I’m kind of nervous about teaching today, but I’m also really excited about it. I’m also really hoping that some of the older people will tell us some stories from their lifetime, because I love hearing about people’s lives.

Today I began looking at different layouts for our Prezi. I didn’t really find one that I felt would fit our project super well. One of the reasons we chose Prezi was because if we couldn’t find a layout we liked we can create our own. Jess and I still need to figure out a playlist and learn the dance that we are going to teach. I know we have to get our presentation together, but a lot of the things we have done for this project seem pointless.
Today we were allowed to work without interruptions, which was really nice. Lauryn and Grace showed the dancers in our class video of the football guys that they are teaching dance for their senior project, so I spent most of the class time doing that. It was really helpful to see non-dancers learning to dance because simple things that I have been doing since I was eight can be hard for others. Jess and I have tailored the class to older people, but I’m afraid that we may be overestimating or underestimating their abilities. We are just going to need a lot of patience and not look for perfection.
Today we rewatched a TEDTalk that we watched earlier this year before another presentation that we did. This video was pretty much background noise while I worked, so I felt like the discussion that we had after was kind of pointless. While the video was playing I worked on the body paragraphs of the persuasive essay. I filled out the forms online for a background check so I can do my senior project. I also turned in my parental consent form for transportation so that Jess can drive me next Tuesday and Thursday.
Today we got an email back from the lady at Rosebush Manor and she sounded really excited about our project. Jess wasn’t here today, but we texted to figure out when we would go during the next week. I also began brainstorming reasons why we chose to use Prezi. I found it’s really hard to say why we are using it. I just really like Prezi and I don’t like using slideshows, it’s just a personal preference.
Today we watched TEDTalks about presenting. I watched two both were about stage fright and how they found a way around it so they can share things they are passionate about. I hate speaking in front of people I know or I have to get to know. I am fine dancing in front of people that I don’t know, but when I know they are going to judge me that’s where it get intimidating. Over the past few years my solos have put me in a really vulnerable place allowing me to show others a part of me I don’t usually share, so the two TEDTalks were really cool.
Today we finished our annotated bibliography. I found a different source than yesterday and I liked that one better because it was specific to dance. I also called Tendercare, which is now Medilodge, but the person I called didn’t answer. Hopefully they will get back to me soon, because Jess and I were shooting for May 17 or 18. I don’t know if they already have stuff planned for those days or how long in advance they have activities scheduled, but hopefully we can find a place to do our project.
Today we worked on our lesson plans for our dance class. So far we have a rough outline of a warm-up, ballet barre section, and cool down. Jess also brainstormed some of the different songs we could teach a dance to, so we still have to choose music for our warm-up and cool down. Jess still hasn’t contacted Rosebush Manor to see if we can do our project there, and I haven’t heard back from the lady at Tendercare/Medilodge. That makes me slightly nervous because I don’t know if this will actually come to fruition if we don’t hear back from someone by Friday. Hopefully Jess can contact Rosebush Manor and get an answer by then. If I don’t get a call back from Tendercare by this afternoon I might try to call again or I might see if we can work with the place that Erica mentioned.
Today we worked on the annotated bibliography. We needed to find one more source, so I found an article that discussed teaching exercise for the elderly. Jess and I still need to contact Tendercare and Rosebush Manor to see if they would be willing to let us come in. I really don’t want to call because I hate calling people. In order to get this project done though I have to call.
